In October 2013 the Minister for Social Protection, Ms Joan Burton T.D., officially launched the Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS) in Deaf Village Ireland, Cabra, Dublin.

The Minister said at the launch that she looked forward to IRIS being available in every Department of Social Protection INTREO centre and throughout the public service in the near future.

to deaf film fans

In Spring 2012 Sony Digital Cinema launched their new innovation Access Glasses. The access glasses mean that Deaf and Hard of Hearing people can watch a movie and see the subtitles displayed on the lenses.

This could mean that in the near future people who need subtitles to enjoy a movie can go to any showing!
