50th Aniversary

DeafHear 50th AniversaryOn the 14th May 2014, DeafHear celebrated its 50th Anniversary in Dublin Castle. Over 200 guests attended the event, including past and present Board members, public and voluntary sector representatives and friends of the organisation.

The event included a short recital by St Mary’s Deaf Choir, and an address by DeafHear Chairman Mr. Declan Keane. DeafHear’s Chief Executive Mr. Niall Keane highlighted key achievements over the past 50 years and outlined some key goals and challenges for the future. The event also showcased some current DeafHear activities and campaigns, including assistive technology, hearing screening and ‘Keep the Sound’ campaign.

The highlight of the evening was the premiere of DeafHear’s documentary short film ‘Celebrating 50 Years’. The film details the key developments affecting the lives of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people over the past 50 years.
